Cat Gas
Hi everyone,
Well, dealing with cat gas, is a difficult situation, especially due to the fact that the only way that it can be determined is thru an x-ray.
Physically all may be well. Blood work could be normal, yet when a cat has gas, there is no eating, no bowel movements, and they are nauseeous. You may think that it is constipation as well. However, if your pet isn't eating it is highly unlikely that it is constipation.
It almost seems very similar to kidney problems one would think. However when the kidneys are functioning normally it's a mystery until the x-rays are done.
Once the diagnosis is made, one of the things that are suggested to add to the diet is acidophelous. This gives an increase of friendly bacteria to help balance the body.
An old human remedy from 1888 for gas was catnip tea made as an infusion.
Until the nauseousness subsides the cat will not eat on their own.
Slippery Elm Bark is a great mild herb that helps in the case of both gas and kidney disease for the nauseousness.
Pumpkin mixed in food, is also known to help with constipation in older cats.
Cats unlike dogs seem to be more fickle, and the gas hits them a little harder, as it takes longer for the cat to bounce back and eat again on it's own.
A nutritious bone broth is very good for aiding movement as well. Slightly heating it adds to it's effectiveness.
My saying for this is " this too will pass, it's just gas."
Have a great day!
Cheryl
