Three Companies Indicted in Pet Food Poison Case

Hello everyone,

Today, February 6,2008 in the Wall Street Journal, two Chinese businesses as well as a Las Vegas based business, were indicted Wednesday in the tainted pet food incidents that killed dozens of animals last year. (Although the number of animals who died is believed to be in the thousands).

The companies listed were Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Dev.Co. and Suzhou Textiles,Silk,Light Industrial Products Arts and Crafts 1/E Co. and American Las Vegas based Chemnutra were charged in two seperate but related indictments of a handful of charges including
" introducing adulterated food into interstate commerce."

Spokesperson for Chemneutra Steve Stern states " Chemneutra denies the allegations in the strongest sense, and they look forward to proving their innocence at trial ". He further states that " They had neither intention of fraud or knowledge of any wrong doing."

It appears that today's indictments are the first U.S Criminal charges laid over the poisoned pet food.

Again, the interesting part will be the Civil Charges. As we know there have been over 50 class action suits laid.

In Civil Law, pets are referred to a " property " likened to a TV or a chair-worth only their market value.

I am sure that this is what will be disputed by many lawyers and precedent will be made, due to the parent-pet relationship that is established not only by the consumer, but also the manufacturers selling the food.

Food For Thought- By name these companies appear to create chemical by-products. Is it possible that we and our pets are becoming the Disposal system for their toxic waste?.
